Flamenco is an art form that is native to the gypsies of Southern Spain. Because the gypsies rely on oral tradition, and even today are wary of the written word, the history of Flamenco is based on conjecture. But Flamenco is full of passion and fire, rhythm, and graceful movement.
"Flamenco Aquií y Ahora" strives to keep the Flamenco tradition alive through music and dance, rhythm and soul. Members include Paco de Nada, Lori Friedlander, Ricardo Kearns and Kim Bartlett.
My work is influenced by growing up with parents who were antique dealers. My preference is to work with mediums from the 19th < 20th century. I attended the Marshfield School of Weaving in Vermont for instruction in spinning and weaving. My final project was to spin and dye wool to weave a double sized coverlet. I have attended a number of MAFA conferences and have participated in rug hooking and bead embroidery classes. Matilda, my angora rabbit is a joy. I have knit several items using her hair, and have LOTS of her fiber waiting to be used. Currently, I am enjoying knitting Victorian style beaded bags. Several bags have taken me approximately a year to complete from start to finish. I have a great sewing machine to personalize the bag linings making each one unique. Enjoy!
I am the designer and creator of the handcrafted clothing, jewelry, and accessories. I am the mother of a BeaUtiFuL seven year old daughter and an eXCiTing five year old son! They have given me sooo much inspiration! I also get much inspiration from sOoOo many good tunes, mother earth, and from a passion to learn. I believe everyone has something to teach!
I am interested in promoting the work ethic and personal integrity required to create art. Visual construction does have its own language system. It matters what we say and how we talk about art making since symbols become the social structures and guidelines we use to construct reality. Reality is a construction everyone continually chooses to make; consequently, we are all artists constructing the reality where we will ultimately live in this dimension: FORM. I want people to know there are those who work at making symbols and there are those who choose to make symbols irregardless of self acknowlegement, personal choice. Many false and flat beliefs limit the self: For example, Some look like an artist and others do not look like an artist, while some people can draw a straight line, I can not draw a straight line; consequently, I could not be an artist! What do we need artists for? They starve in garrets and need to get a real job. BAH HUMBUG!
Art and art making exist for the pure pleasure it gives me when I draw, paint, sculpt; however, I have been made mindful of the choices I make and the impact the choice to term myself "artist" has made on the mental set of my fellow Snyder countians. This is why I have joined the Snyder County Arts Council, to challenge stigma about artists and art making.
As a young mother, I was an avid seamstress, fashioning everything from coats and dresses to slipcovers and Barbie clothes. As an advertising executive, my daily life was imbued with fashion and design. When I retired I was able to pursue my art full time. By seeking imagery in fabric, I began designing eye-catching wall hangings and handbags.
My inspiration comes from unusual textures and trimmings, the artwork of the masters, the latest fashions, or even something as simple as a row of homes on a quaint village street. Each of my designs is original and my handbags are functional works of art. Each is fully lined with pockets for smaller items. I have designed over 200 handbags, all with their own unexpected accents that spark interest, start conversations, and generate compliments wherever they travel.
Marlin has been painting and drawing since the third grade. Having developed a strong interest in the arts at an early age, he set his sites on going to college to cultivate his skill. With the eruption of the Vietnam War, his life went in the opposite direction when he chose to serve his country. After his service in the marines, he returned home, married Debra, and started a family. Self taught, he pursued his art as a hobby. Now, a disabled veteran and retired, he is able to pursue his dream. He has attended many art courses and his art has been placed winners at county fairs. His work varies: acrylics, oils, and charcoals. His art subjects also vary, from portraits, cartoons, still life, animals, and landscapes.
As a hobby, I have had a passion for photography for most of my life. Now that I am retired, I am devoting a large amount of time to it. I worked with film for many years, now I have made a transition to digital photography. I also do all the post processing (dark room work) myself. I also do my own mounting and frame work. Some larger prints, I have done commercially.
My photographic interest is in portrait, landscape and nature. I also like to present the observer an untraditional viewpoint of a familiar subject.
watercolor, pencil - wildlife illustrations, portraits, landscapes, logo design.

Fraktur by Donna Selfridge Spangler
Fraktur- a PA German Art (1750's-1850's) calligraphy & traditional design; ink, watercolor medium
I grew up loving the smell of crayons in a coffee tin. The joy of opening that big can full of colors and smelling that coffee smell was as good as it ever got. Still makes me happy just thinking about it! My favorite mediums are watercolor and acrylic. I love the fluid nature of watercolor and the versatility of acrylics. I am inspired by the colors and textures of nature and our neighborhoods, especially the city. And of course the cats that populate so many of my paintings. Mostly by God, who put the love of all things painterly in my heart.
I am a photographer. I work with 4x5 rail cameras and my photographs explore the limits of that medium. I photograph with 4x5 in order to print large, use the perspective correcting abilities of the format, and because I love the speed at which it forces me to work.
